ETA: It was pointed out to me
here that Invisible Children, the organization behind this is far from perfect and is considered by some to be a controversial activist group. I think given the message below that it should be an obvious fact. Not everyone is going to like the call for military intervention. I'm personally okay with that. If you're not that's fine too. Much of the money this organization gathers is spent on spreading the word, instead of directly helping those in Africa. While not ideal, if they can get the word to people in power that can actually do something (and something is actually done), I think it's worth it.

Some of the armies of the countries that Invisible Children support have been accused of rape and looting. I don't condone such things, and maybe they really are supporting the lesser of two evils.

However, there are always two sides to every story. It's good to educate yourself on it. Support or not, that's your choice. But I still feel it's a good idea to get his name out. You don't have to support the organization to do so. Neil Gaiman has made a post of other organizations helping in the area that don't seem to be connected to Kony, if you would like to donate to them. His blog has also pointed out that the information posted at Visible Children is somewhat dubious, so keep asking questions and educating yourself.

Normally I'm not one for propaganda but this is for a good cause, a great cause even that has stolen the lives and innocence of far too many. Watch this. Have a box of tissues ready. Prepare to be shocked and horrified and heartbroken. It's worth it. It really is.

KONY 2012 from INVISIBLE CHILDREN on Vimeo.

I've never heard of Joseph Kony, and I bet most of you haven't either. He's a truly evil man who has turned children into soldiers and sex slaves for over twenty years. He's the founder of the the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), operating in Africa, and he has no purpose except to gain power. For the majority of that time, he did so with very little international attention. No one cared. Until now.

People are standing up, speaking up to the injustices, wanting something to be done. The campaign is seeking donations, but more than that it's after attention. I say give it to them. The more people that know the better.

Even if you can't donation, at least spread the word. It doesn't matter who you are or where you live. Every voice counts in this.
